There is a proverb for every psychological movement of our human emotions. We’ve all had our experiences from our earliest recollections of being away from someone near and dear. Although it is heart rending in varying degrees for different individuals, there is a common denominator that is shared by all.
Sometimes, we become fearful by the “out of sight, out of mind” syndrome and it can wreak imaginings of the worst kind as our feelings of missing the person gets compounded by doubts.
It takes blind trust and moral strength to get past the darkness. Not even our jobs and chores are able to keep the mind on an even keel as we yearn for the person who’s presence fulfilled us in many ways.
As though philosopher and writer, Kalil Gilbran knows what personal anguish is brought upon humans when their spirits are troubled by such, he wrote:
But let there be space in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.
Love one another, but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other’s cup but drink not from the same cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.
Sing and dance together and be Joyous, but let each one of you be alone.
Even as the strings of the lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.
Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping.
For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together, yet not too near together
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.
