Vicious 6th Round Knockout By Marquez Against Pacquiao Stunned the World

I used to publish a blow by blow account of Manny Pacquiao’s fights in the past primarily for the post to get crawled by the SERPs, LOL! But honestly, I have always been interested to write about boxing especially so when there’s so much at stake for a fellow General like Manny Pacquiao. It gets even more interesting when he’s up against his rival, Juan Manuel Marquez. There’s always so much to prove for these two men. Their second of the four matches against each other was considered to be an Unfinished Business were Marquez felt he was robbed of victory. So much for sour graping.

Though I failed to watch Pacquiao Vs. Marquez 4 because I wasn’t infront of the boob tube, my Mom and brothers kept updating me via SMS of the game’s result.

My heart speaks over Pacman’s loss against Marquez

I was told that it was a stunning 6th round knockout in a very convincing fashion giving Marquez the emphatic win over Pacquiao.

The defeat was talked about everywhere. I even overheard conversations of disbelief while inside the elevator of SM City Gensan.

For the record, the loss via knockout was Pacquiao’s first since 1999. Reading the blow by blow account of the much talked about fight and the analysis thereafter made my heart bleed. It was sobering to see Pacquiao suffer the greatest loss of his life. The Champion got knocked down and battered. Our Champion got wounded. But what’s striking and admirable here is that he got up and accepted his fate gracefully. That is a heart of a true champion and he deserves respect for that.

My personal take is that all four fights have been genuinely memorable fought by these two champions with excellence. Boxing fans will remember these great fighters forever for always giving consistent bouts that exceeds the fans expectations. No boxer has learned to fight inside the ring overnight. The skill is honed over years of training and practice. Both of them deserves our admiration for the acquired in-ring excellence. In every fight, there’s someone who has got to lose and someone will go home victorious. Like they say, “We win some, we lose some.” When we start accepting defeats gracefully, that’s only the time we can finally move forward. No more sour graping folks, OK?

Paquiao- Marquez is considered to be an epic rivalry. They have always been evenly matched. Rumors has it that Marquez fought for legacy in the last bout against Pacquiao while the latter’s legacy has always been secure hence, he considered the Pacquiao- Marquez 4 match only as a big payday.

So how much is at stake? Hold on to your seats, folks! Forbes wrote and I quote:

Pacquiao is guaranteed $8.6 million for the fight, but his share of pay-per-view revenues will push his paycheck past $20 million. Marquez is guaranteed $3 million, but could snare up to $10 million with a big PPV audience.

Very interesting, ain’t right? The question of whether a fifth fight is in the offing, that still remains to be seen.

As to Manny Pacquiao who has kept us all proud and dignified universally so many times in the past, you’ve fought a good fight. We’re still proud of the man you have become. Good guys are a dime a dozen, but an aggressive fighter like you who has brought so much pride, honor and glory to the entire Filipino nation is always priceless.

Azkals Out of 2014 World Cup Qualifiers

The Philippines’ bid to the World Cup ended when the Philippine Azkals lost to Kuwait the other night to a convincing 2-0 win by the latter.

The Azkaleros was a young team alright but hopes were high that they could somehow make it.

The Filipino nation went gaga over the young players showing their support may it be outside the country or within our territory. Some even had some football paraphernalias personalized to show their strong support for the team. I am not too sure how different is that to personalized baseball bats because I have always been a basketball fanatic 🙂

Personally, I was hopeful that the Azkals can make it but when you analyze the young team’s capacity versus the top 50 team in the over-all standing of the World Cup which is Kuwait, there was no way the team could ever make it. The Azkaleros played valiantly though and it showed their heart playing for the Philippine flag. The effort was fantastic but just wasn’t enough to advance their bid to the World Cup.

However, Azkals is the first  team in Philippine sports history to have gone past the first round of qualifiers.

We Are the Champions

Yesterday was another milestone in the world of sports. Our very own Manny Pacquiao once again proved he is unbeatable in the boxing arena. It was an incredible win by Pacman against Shane Mosley. Most importantly, it was a crime-free day in the entire country on May 8, the very day the fight was staged in Las Vegas, Nevada. The win made us all proud to be Filipinos 🙂

Pacman in action!

In another note, I was so brokenhearted last night. Barangay Ginebra Kings wasn’t able to stretch the series to Game 7 in the Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup . While TnT fans were obviously in jubilation, I was very disappointed with the turn-out. I give the credit to the TnT players nonetheless for never refusing to lose heart in upstaging a huge comeback to overcome a 15-point lead by The Kings in the third quarter.

All’s well that ends well. It’s a good thing I didn’t suffer from heart attack, LOL! The game was extended in overtime giving my heart erratic beats.

In another side of the world, the Dallas Mavericks had a sweep  of the Western Conference Best-of-7 Semifinal series against the two-time defending Champion, L.A. Lakers. The Mavericks will advance to the West Finals. How sweet!

This week’s Music Monday shall be anchored on the victories of those who excelled in their fields, especially to our very own, Manny Pacquiao! You’re definitely the man!

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS

I’ve paid my dues –
Time after time –
I’ve done my sentence
But committed no crime –
And bad mistakes
I’ve made a few
I’ve had my share of sand kicked in my face –
But I’ve come through

We are the champions – my friends
And we’ll keep on fighting – till the end –
We are the champions –
We are the champions
No time for losers
‘Cause we are the champions – of the world –

I’ve taken my bows
And my curtain calls –
You brought me fame and fortuen and everything that goes with it
I thank you all –

But it’s been no bed of roses
No pleasure cruise –
I consider it a challenge before the whole human race –
And I ain’t gonna lose –

We are the champions – my friends
And we’ll keep on fighting – till the end –
We are the champions –
We are the champions
No time for losers
‘Cause we are the champions – of the world –

My All-Time Fave Team

It is an open knowledge that I am a basketball fanatic and my all-time favorite team is my Barangay Ginebra Kings. Justify FullI was very happy when they won the Fiesta Conference of the Philippine Basketball Association in 2007. That’s adding more crown in their cap. But this year wasn’t a a lucky one. The team was crippled with too may injuries. Nevertheless, it was such an accomplishment with the team playing hurt and still winning crucial games thereby making it to the Quarter Finals. I wasn’t too happy with the outcome but it’s ok. They gave their best and lived up to the fans expectations once more because the team once again displayed their never-say-die spirit. It is more than enough for me. Never giving up a fight just like that.

Fanatic

It’s funny to think how a mere basketball game could immensely affect one’s emotion. True, I love watching basketball games especially so when my fave team is on the run. You just don’t know how happy I am when my team wins. It’s like you wanna throw out a real big party. And how heart breaking it is when they lose. I always see to it that I keep myself updated with my own favorite team — their standing, schedule of games, stats, etc. I admit that it’s the only show I prefer to watch if you would let me choose one though I am also trying to enjoy watching other shows apart from watching basketball. Right! You could say I am a fanatic, a proud Ginebra fan at that, hehe.

I still could recall, I was in college when I have erratic heartbeats whenever I watch their games without a single miss, huh! You could attribute it to my having a big admiration to their once-small-forward player Vince Hizon, who is now happily married, poor me, hehe! Well, the feeling’s long gone as well as the man. He’s no longer part of my all-time favorite team but still, I am one of the million Ginebra-fans who keeps cheering and egging them on to always keep that NEVER-SAY-DIE SPIRIT.

New players came and continued to live up to the fans’ expectations. The ball is round. They could win the championship or they could not. But still, I am hoping they have the win every game because it’s one of the things that make me happy. Yeah, “ang babaw ko”, you might think that. I won’t mind, it’s a good feeling to be true to one’s own self…
