Happy Mother’s Day To You, My Dearest Mom!

Like they say it is very hard for parents to give away their child in marriage. It has always been the case for parents whenever one of their children settle down.

I remember my mother asking me to help her out in preparing her speech for my brother’s wedding last week. She has been doing this whenever she has to make a speech as a Principal Sponsor. This time around however, I told her,  “this time, it’s different. It’s for your own son that you’ll be giving and sharing your words of wisdom. It should come from your heart and soul”, I emphasized.

While practicing what to say, I caught her saying these lines in Filipino:

“I am used to speaking and giving advice to married couples. But I didn’t know it feels different when it’s delivering one to your own child that’s getting married. It’s like a dream. Before this wedding, I have already been counting my fingers. Yes. I have my own count down. I can’t seem to believe that the baby I conceived and gave birth to some 30 years ago is now married… “

That was what my mother was practicing 3 days before the wedding of my brother. She wanted me to translate everything into English, hahaha! But due to the immense amount of preparations to make the occasion as perfect as could be, she entirely forgot to prepare a good speech. When the Master of Ceremony called out her name in the reception to finally have her say, that’s when she realized she hadn’t finalized her speech, LOL!

She was able to somehow organize her thoughts and repeat some in actual of what she had practiced  but not without having a brief emotional breakdown in front of everyone. Yes. She got very emotional. And it went viral! I, and the Emcee and the rest of the audience cried along.

Mama Dearie tried hard to hold back the tears...

...but eventually broke down to tears

My poor Mama!

Being the first marriage in the family, I understand what she must be feeling. The thought of my brother having his own family hasn’t taken root just yet.

My family

I didn’t want to cry while she was giving her speech but when I heard my name being mentioned, I just couldn’t help my tears flow. She said she was grateful to have me and she thanked me in front of everyone for being a supportive “Ate” towards my two brothers. She thanked me for all the effort I invested to have made the Wedding a successful event.

Having been widowed for eight (8) years, my mother’s life has revolved around her three kids. She unflinchingly stood as the mother and father to us. Many times, we made her cry for being such stubborn kids. But deep in our hearts, there can never be any other woman who can replace her as a responsible mother who gave her all for her children.

On this special day, I wanna thank her and let her know how grateful I am for having her. Life will never be the same without the loving nags (LOL!) we got from her. The constant arguments we entangle ourselves with have always reminded me that I can never find a mother like my Mom. She’s one of a kind!

I may not be the perfect daughter but I am aware I can never repay the great things she’s done for me and my brothers. I can only be grateful I got a mother who has ever been so selfless.

We love you so, Mamang Dearie. We could only pray for a healthier you in the coming years for you to be able to witness and derive happiness seeing your grand kids growing ;-)

As in Sis! It was actually a poignant moment. I am not a mother yet but I can feel how she feels probably because we’re both women.

To be acknowledged for all the efforts made for my family in front of everyone came as a surprise. I didn’t know I’ll be on the limelight since the occasion was my brothers’ and not mine, LOL!

Anyhow, I know this post won’t be enough to repay my mother’s sacrifices for us. Indeed we are so blessed we have a mother like her.

Happy Mom’s day to you too Sis and to all Mommy bloggers out there!
