The Bouquet

Everyone was in high anticipation of who’s going to catch the bouquet in my cousin’s wedding last December. This has been a common ritual in wedding ceremonies which is usually done in the wedding reception. It’s not just simply throwing the bouquet out in a crowd of women. A lot of innovations were now thought of to add more fun and excitement.

Single women were ushered in at the center of the reception hall. Since I was part of the secondary entourage, I was one of those who went to table to table to encourage single ladies to join in the fun. Unfortunately, there weren’t too many unattached women or they were simply shy to admit they were.

There were almost ten people mostly the bride’s maids and yours truly, the bride’s maid of honor.  The catching was something innovative. We formed a circle and the bride was in the center handling the bouquet. When the music started playing in the background, we had to start swaying our hips to the tune  while at the same time the buoquet was being passed around to each one of the single ladies. The one who held the bouquet when the music stopped was the chosen one.

I believe there was some trick played on me for me to intentionally get the bouquet. Amongst the number of women, I was the only one that’s dressed differently, LOL! They must have all connived with the sound engineer! Hahaha!

The instruction: The gentleman had to imitate what the groom will do with his bride. If he kissed her on the forehead, that’s what he’s going to do with me, too. Goodness gracious! It’s gotta be wholesome! Hahahaha!
