Rivers of Sorrow; Life is Too Short

Our family is at the moment in grief. My Uncle, who has been undergoing dialysis treatment, died yesterday morning from cardiac arrest. He is the elder brother of my mother. Losing a relative, a family member, or a friend is always painful. Incidentally, the day my uncle passed away was also the first death anniversary of my aunt who died of “demonic” cancer.

When I lost my father in 2003, my heart was broken into pieces. I was a shattered soul. The memories of him leaving us for good still brings back a pang of pain. When he left, I have simply altered my perceptions on death. Life just does not end because my heart is tattered. There’s always a reason to move on.

Many of us are afraid of dying but it’s the only one thing we could not escape from. We will all die and it’s inevitable. We should always battle the fear of death as we all are sojourners.

Life is too short. Some takes this adage to heart and lives a life of too much drinking and worldly merrymaking. For me, life is too short that we should make the most out of it. Life shouldn’t be spent on reckless abandon. Life is full of opportunites to explore, discover, invent, be real and honest, and to live as we must live, by choice, by our own gifts and abilities.

As I go through the daily struggles that life brings me, I only take this verse from the Bible as my guide:

Young people, enjoy your youth. Be happy while you are still young. Do what you want to do, and follow your heart’s desire. But remember that GOD is going to judge you for whatever you do”. (Esslesiastes 11:9, TEV).

My sympathy to you and your family for your loss. You make a great point though–life is short so we do need to make the most of it and realize what a gift it is! Nice verse by the way!

condolence sis…

when death knocks on the door, everybody who will be left by the one who died for sure are in grief. it has been almost 10 years since my father died, and with that long years, i still can feel how fresh the times when we were together. perhaps because we had that quality time spent and we have lived our lives pretty uniquely. i don’t have him now, but my hope is to see him on the first resurrection morning when Jesus comes back and will raise hte dead in Christ again. hope you have the same faith… :)

God bless…

I know the feeling too when I lost my Dad years ago.
I hope you would be fine soon!
Thanks for sharing that verse.
I did not know that ” enjoy your youth” is Biblical.

I am so sorry for your family’s loss, Lainy.

About two years ago my grandma died almost the same day as my uncle who died one year before that. Both because of aneurysm.

we should all cherish our loved ones always and never take them for granted.

Even if we know that things like this could possibly happen, it’s different when it happens to us. Your family must be going through a hard time right now. But for sure, God will always be there to comfort you.

Tukayo, God Bless you.

I am so sorry that you have sadly lost someone dear to you. I feel for you and the depth of loss that death brings. I know that no words can really bring comfort or relief and sometimes they conjure up pain. The only thing we all can do is try and see the best in others and never put off showing our love of others.
Someone very wise once said to me – never wait to give flowers, it is much better if a person can see them, touch them and to smell them – never wait to give someone flowers.
I am not sure if we ever really truly get over losing someone – there is always that conversation that we wished we could have. All we can do in the end though is to do our very best for people, help them when we can, love them unconditionally and remember the very best of them when they are gone.
My condolences to you and your family at this sad time.
