Let me do a little bit of rewinding going back to my past when I was still enrolled in the University for my college degree.
My parents did not have any problems with me when I was still a student- and even up until now, hahaha! I have always been a good girl and I aimed of finishing my degree without the nuances of boyfriends keeping me sidetracked. Though I was a state scholar, my parents still had to give me money for my daily allowance. My father didn’t want me to live far away from them and stay in the dormitory even if the University was some 30-minute ride by jeepney from where we live. I had to hurdle that day in and day out.
I need to make mention that I have always looked forward for enrollment. Not because of the long queues but because the money that my parents gave me, I get to spend it for buying stuff that I need in school. You see, I don’t have to pay for my tuition. So I deemed it best to buy some clothes instead since we don’t have any uniforms.
One thing I hated about the enrollment process though was the long queues. The school seemed not to be bothered by it and did not even implement crowd control. If only they had stanchions, velvet rope and barricades in place, the enrollment process would have been organized.
Eleven years had passed since I graduated from college, I believe there were some improvements that have been implemented. I have heard that the enrollment process is now computerized. Hurray to that! The students of recent times are so lucky because technology have made life easier and more convenient for them.
Looking back, I feel somehow happy and gratified that I was able to withstand the hardships that a university student once faced. Being a state scholar was not easy. I don’t have any point of comparison because I haven’t tried enrolling in a private school. All I know is that, I was lucky to have been a recipient of the government funds to go to school all for FREE.
