The Power of Purchasing Slots for Entrecard Ads

Uncle Che‘s comprehensive post on how to advertise on our hard-earned Entrecard credits is very informative and enlightening. When we purchase slots for EC ads, our ultimate goal is to have our hard-earned credits worth- and that is to get enough BLOG EXPOSURE. When I checked on my stats as to how many visits I got for each ads I purchased, I’ve concluded that there is power in purchasing ads and it certainly helps to boost the traffic of our respective blogs.

If I base it in my own experience, there are only two things I consider in purchasing slots for EC adverts. These are Drop Rank and Widget Location.

DROP RANK

It is important to consider the DROP RANK of each slot you purchase. If one is ranked Deeply committed – Deadly serious. A drop master, Takes dropping Very Very Seriously, A dedicated dropper with a hint of addiction, Consistent, regular dropper, it only means the blogger is an active Ecard dropper. If he gets to drop 300 cards a day, that would mean he could get at least 200 visits to a minimum low, that is, if the 100 blogs won’t reciprocate his drops. If one gets that high number of visitors a day, it would mean more exposure for your blog. When you use the campaign tab for purchasing ads, you can immediately see that the blogs featured on the first part of each categories are the expensive ones which incidentally also got the high drop ranks. I deduced that advertising cost is proportional to blog popularity.

HOW TO KNOW A BLOG’S DROP RANK

I always try to check how many times a particular blog has returned my drops. Along with it, you will be able to see how that blog is faring in the drop rankings. Just go to the blog’s EC widget, and click the big letter E beside the word DROP. The blogger’s EC profile will immediately show up.

Guess what? I’ve purchased a slot in my other blog, Lainy’s Musings and it got the second highest clicks thus far.

WIDGET LOCATION

When I am in my notorious self dropping cards, it’s important to me that the EC widget is located at the top most part of a particular blog, no scrolling down needed. That would save me enough time and would give me more time to read and comment. There have been numerous times that I get to drop on widgets featured on certain blogs. In this case, your droppers won’t have difficulty figuring out where in the world you placed your widget. When you purchase ads in a very strategic location for all the bloggers to see, you will get better chances of exposure. Thus, making your ad purchase all worthwhile.

If you have other Entrecard purchasing tips and it worked well for you, feel free to unleash them in my comment section.

Thank you!

That’s absolutely right. Placing the widget on the top right or left. I encounter a lot of widgets at the bottom of the page, what the heck! oh well at least I take time to find it. But if I didn’t find it that easy goodbye page. I even refresh page twice. Lainy pwede ba magbigat ng award dito? Pls take a look Award

Ellaine,

I’m happy naman at nasa number 1 spot ka na sa Entrecard the last time I checked. Keep it up. Someday it will help you a lot in monetization. Just don’t forget one thing – update your site more frequently kahit short articles lang. That’s one SEO technique. :-)

I appreciate your insight into Entrecard. I have moved my widget up to the top. I have been a member for months, but only recently started the 300 at day. Now I need to purchase some ads. Have a Chic Day!

I don’t have my Entrecard widget at the ever top, but it’s close. Someone has to scroll down just a little bit to see it — not much effort, but hopefully it gets people to actually look at the page.

Seems to be people want to fly by, drop a card and then vanish. I’d rather folks stick around for at least a little bit. A lot of traffic is great, but if no one’s bothering to do anything more than drop a card, what’s the point?

I think advertising cost also depends on how many people want to advertise on your site.

@ JOY:

Yes, Joy. While it’s true that it takes a helluva lot of time in finding out the location of the EC widgets for some blogs, I stretch my patience a little more especially if these blogs are my regular droppers and they have beautiful entries, it’s all worth the time. If it’s their strategy to keep me longer in their respective pages, it’s working, hehe! But I still would encourage bloggers to place it on top. That’s for advertising purposes… that is if I purchase a slot for my blog’s ad…

@ JESSIE:

Welcome back, Kuya! Sana nga magdilang anghel ka, Idol!Tsaka totoo yan Kuya, kahit nga ala akong oops na nakukuha, I always try to write just about anything that comes to mind. Nakakahiya naman panay ang drop ko tapos when they get to my page, same entry parin… Salamat sa tip!

@ CHIC-GAL:

Thanks for sharing. WOW! You’ve got 13 sites! I still wasn’t able to peek at them all. Please give me enough time, hehehe. 13! That’s a lot! If you get EC account for each and you’ll religiously drop cards to 300 blogs, wow! You’ll be dropping to 3, 900 blogs! How many blogs of yours got an ecard account?

@ THE NATURAL STATE HAWG:

Hi Ethan. Thanks for your comment . Your widget is strategically placed, not so hard to locate. This is just fine, at least we could stay a while longer to read some of your entries. It’s true, Entrecarders just drop and run. Page reviews now diminishes. I always try to pause and read and comment especially if i can relate to the topic. See you around!

@ AXIOBLOGGER:

Yeah. THe advertising cost goes up and down depending on the number of ads in queue. However, some advertisers would be interested to advertise on the expensive ones. THese blogs get big numbers of traffic daily. For advertisers, it would mean more exposure for their blogs.

Thanks very much for the reference, Lainy. This post is very explicit and “down to earth” so much that an Entrecard Dummy will be able to absorb the knowledge.

When you visit the campaign section of your entrecard dashboard and click on a particular category, blogs in that category are listed from the highest to the lowest in popularity. The rankings there signify the amount of Entrecard traffic the blogs obtain.

Surprisingly, Some higher ranking blogs have cheaper advertising costs than some about ten places below. Such situations are rare though, so I never miss when I meet them.

Succeeding with Entrecard advertising means knowing the diffrences between
- Popularity
- Drop Rank
- Advertsing Cost

Popularity is directly related to entrecard traffic.
Some people have a high drop rank, but they are not lucky enough of being reciprocated, so they may have lower popularity instead. So, I pay more attention to popularity than drop rank.

If two blogs have the same drop rank, i will choose the one with higher popularity.

If two blogs have the same popularity and drop rank, i will choose the one with lower advertising cost.

You must play your cards correctly.

As for the widget location stuff, come one! Accept it! You are a Genuis.

Your post is a great inspiration to many.
Keep Up, Friend!

@ UNCLE CHE: :

Thanks, UNcle Che! THe points are pointed out very clearly. What I’ve missed I think in my post is the fact that we need to play our cards very well. Your tip on choosing high popularity than high drop rank is also enlightening. You are right, not everyone with high drop ranks are reciprocated. As you’ve mentioned, “If two blogs have the same popularity and drop rank, i will choose the one with lower advertising cost”. That’s very genius of you! It’s wise thinking when we spend lesser number of credits to a particular blog and still getting our much needed exposure. THanks so much for the added input.

Drop rates actually can be misleading, as many people simply “drop and run” to get their numbers high.

I suppose it’s a matter of what the blogger is attempting to achieve that really determines where the widget is placed, too.
People who are interested in getting the numbers only up put the widget high on the page. However,
if the blogger’s focus isn’t on ad revenues, but on having people read what they’ve written, the widget generally is on the bottom of the page, not on the top.

For example, I have the widget on my site “The Artist’s Muse” http://www.sharonahart.blogspot.com near the bottom of the page because I don’t worry about monetization, I really am more interested in sharing ideas with other people.

@ S.A. HART:

You have a point there, too Sharon. But since this post is for EC advertisers who are more than willing to spend as much credit for the traffic that they could get by purchasing Entrecard ad slots, I personally think that widget location, in most circumstances, would be of great help for one's particular blog to get noticed. While it's true that the "DROP & RUN" phenomenon has become a trend especially for monetized blogs, not all are guilty of that. Page reviews is diminishing but I think it all depends on a person's interest. If a certain article was able to capture his attention, he will take a pause, read, and go as far as comment, regardless of the widget's location.

@ HONEY:

It’s OK HOn, basta ba worth it lang pud ang paghulat, hehe!
Ye, Bohol is a beautiful place. Been there in 2003 for 3 days, 1 day sa Cebu. I love Bohol better than Baguio. A perfect get-away!

Sis great tips. It’s very helpful lalo na for me na as in lang alam about EC. Honestly I’m not a serious dropper..tamad eh..I agree with you na the EC widget should be placed at the top or yong visible agad, I hate those blogs na ang EC widget ay nasa bottom ng blog nila..gawin bang footer..hehehe..
Congrats pala sis nasa number spot ikaw! yeey! keep it up! hope to catch you in YM soon…
